In this episode, VIXIO GamblingCompliance's chief analyst James Kilsby speaks with Brazilian gambling law expert Luiz Felipe Maia of FYMSA Advogados in Sao Paulo about Brazil's long and winding road to regulated sports betting.Two and a half years after Brazil's Congress passed a law to legalise both land-based and online fixed-odds betting, delayed efforts to establish a concession or licensing system received a boost as lawmakers agreed to enact new legislation to lower the effective tax rates. Still, significant challenges remain, including emerging competition from state and municipal governments that last year received legal approval to launch lottery games and sports betting within their borders.
